The Front Line with Dr. Peter Hammond PDF Print E-mail
For over three decades, Dr. Peter Hammond has developed missionary outreaches in Africa, including those that have entered the war zones of Mozambique, Angola and Sudan. Dr. Hammond has distributed Bibles to persecuted Christians across Africa and Eastern Europe. He has been attacked, beaten, arrested and imprisoned for his faith. This month, we meet Dr. Hammond as the founder and director of Frontline Fellowship on the 15th anniversary of 9/11 as he shares a word about what was happening in his part of the world and much more.

1422469115CSpot: On the morning of September 11, 2001, millions of Americans watched a series of coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group Al-Qaeda on the United States. As we watched the attacks unfold on American soil, what was happening in Africa? What did our American news media ignore?

Dr. Hammond: On September 11, 2001, while the world’s attention was focusing on what was happening in New York and in Washington, D.C., even more Christians were being slaughtered by Muslim terrorists and militants in Africa. In fact, just in the one town of Jos in Nigeria, there were over 12,000 people murdered, 100 church buildings burned down, hundreds of homes and businesses of Christians destroyed on that same day—on September 11, 2001.

And the thing that amazed me is that while I’m well-connected and I get a huge amount of mailings and communications regularly, I never read about that anywhere. And the only reason that I learned about it is because we’ve got friends in Jos, Nigeria, and I was invited to move to there. When I went to Jos, I spoke to people who told me what happened on September 11, 2001.
As the news came through that the World Trade Center has been hit, the Muslims poured out of the mosques screaming, “Allahu Akbar!” And they tore to pieces a black pregnant woman in front of a mosque in Jos, and they went on to burn down a hundred churches, hundreds of businesses and homes and slaughtered 12,000 Christians.

The army and police were nowhere to be seen, and the people were disarmed, basically, because that’s the government policy over there. The army and police won’t protect them, and the Muslims seemed to be well-prepared [and] organized. They had pre-positioned weapons. They were extremely well-armed, and the Christians were fighting back with bows and arrows and farming tools and implements.

And then, an extraordinary thing happened:  An 18-wheeler, a particularly large truck, coming from the northern country of Niger, which is mostly Muslim, about 90-something percent Muslim. This truck came, and for no reason, seemed to capsize and stall onto an area—a Christian suburb in Jos.
Thousands of AK-47 assault rifles, hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition in the crates, and the Christians saw this as provision. They picked up the weapons some of them knew how to use and organized themselves into self-defense units, elements to regain the area, stop the slaughter, and only once had Christians reestablished control and protection of those areas.

Only then did the army and police of Nigeria turn up and order to try to confiscate these weapons and disarm the people again—the very same police and army that hadn’t done a thing to protect them while these disarmed civilians had been targeted by Muslim militants.
So, politically, my question was to people:  “Was this spontaneous or was this pre-planned?” And they said, “It looked extremely well-planned.” I think because there wasn’t a hesitation, because the moment the World Trade Center hit the news, they were out on the streets in a coordinated, systematic effort. This isn’t spontaneous at all.

Terrorist activity around the world has grown exponentially. Find out what has attributed to its growth and whether or not Dr. Hammond believes it can be stopped. Hear his thoughts about refugee resettlement in America and the future of Christians in a world where Muslims will outnumber Christians by the year 2070. You won’t want to miss why he believes “welfare and abortion are killing and damning your civilization to hell.”
